Someone forgot to push her brain buttons this morning…

What do 3 firemen, a blow out, and school orientation all have in common? 

They all contributed to the  HECK  of a day I’ve had. 

So, this morning was James first day of preschool. Very exciting!  As usual, I thought I gave myself enough time to be ready and out the door this morning but I didn’t.  We were running about 5 minutes late.  But it turns out I wasn’t the only one, which made me feel a lot better until…

I pulled up to the curb of his preschool.  My plan was to get James out of the car and send him on his merry way.  Hmmm…this did not happen. Leaving the car running, I jumped out and shut my car door and then went to open James door.  Except for James door wouldn’t open.  It was locked.  So, I went to open my door but it was locked too.  I JUST LOCKED MY KIDS IN THE CAR!  ON JAMES FIRST DAY OF PRE-SCHOOL!  Ok ok, I know.  everyone has done this one time or another.  I have.  So, I asked if I could borrow a phone to call 911 because “naturally” my cell was still in the car. 

“911, what’s your emergency?”

“I just locked my kids in the car”

“Is the car on?”

“Yes”

“Are they in a garage?”

“No, I’m at his pre-school”

Bla bla bla…they got my address and told me the fire department was on it’s way. 

Then, I think, James is probably scared and wondering what’s going on.  So, I knock on his window and tell him that I locked him in the car.  Then “ding” a light goes on.  James can unbuckle himself.  So, I yell to James through the window: “I locked you in the car.  Unbuckle yourself and unlock the car for Mommy” “Ok, Mommy!”  He does what he’s told and “Ta Da” the car is open!  I pull him out and call 911 back and tell them that my 3 year old got himself out of the car.  Yippy!  Then I shut his door and go to open my door.  This is when said “light” goes out again.  “Did I really just lock Katelyn in the car again?”  Well, I thought I did.  So, I call dispatch back and said “Never mind, I’m a total idiot.  I just locked the car again.  I’m having a bad morning.  Sorry!”  She said, in a polite joking voice: “maybe you should go back inside and start your day over.” Ha-ha, I wish!  At leased I have James out of the car now, right!  I took him inside to preschool.  Meanwhile…

the Fire department was still on it’s way over from the first time that I called.  About 2 seconds before they arrived I tried James door again and it opened.  Ya, I really am that dumb!  My door was still locked but James’ was still unlocked from when he previously opened it.  Can you please just imagine how dumb I felt when this huge fire truck pulls up with 3 firemen to my rescue and I’m standing there with the car door open.  I apologized profusely to the firemen.  Thankfully, in a very polite and heroic voice they tell it was no problem and never hesitate to call.  That is what they are here for.  Firemen are so cute! 

The rest of the day continued with a GINORMOUS poop blow-out by Katelyn and James peeing all over the bathroom floor. Is it just me or do days like this happen only when my husband isn’t going to be home till late. He started school orientation tonight for his MBA. Needless to say, this resulted in early bedtimes for both kiddos…sigh!

The day wasn’t all bad though. I was able to get some groceries and a shower while James was at school.

It’s been a while…

Since I last updated the blog.  I just haven’t been in the mood lately and I’m barely in the mood now.  It’s a bit rainy outside at the moment so I’m letting James watch a little Sesame street.  I figured I better do it now while I have the time.

Our summer has been full of fun so far.  To start my Mom came to visit.  While she was here we went to the CO springs Zoo (AWESOME ZOO!), Outlet mall, R ec center pool, park, and many other fun things.  We then met up with my Dad and brothers for some camping in Steam Boat Springs.  Rob had to go out of town for work for the next few weeks so I decided to go home with my parents to Utah.  I was able to spend two weeks there before flying home to CO.

{side note: flying home with James and Katelyn by myself  was a horrible experience.  I won’t be doing that again anytime soon.  James was his usual self, pulling the tray table down and taking off his seat belt, but this time I didn’t have free hands to deal with him.  Once we were in the air it was all fine because I just turned on the portable DVD player.  But take off and landing are ridiculous.  It resulted in strangers holding Kate while I dealt with James.  Then Katelyn decided to poop.  Why do they always poop on the plane.  I’m so glad the flight from Utah to Colorado is a short one.  Ugh!}

We met up with my family again for some more camping in Durango, CO (probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.  I’ve seen a lot of places too!).  We spent the fourth of July weekend going to a Rockies game and then sitting out on the field to enjoy the fire work(I think we are going to make it a tradition).  Unfortunately James got a fever on the 4th so we didn’t do much.  After we put the kids to bed we enjoyed the fireworks our neighbors were doing with their children. 

James turned 3 on the 10th.  I know we all say this but it really is crazy how fast they grow.  We had some friends and family over for a small BBQ, cake and presents.  One of the presents I got him was a little travel Thomas train that we bought with the money his Great Grandma gave him.  He takes that thing every where.  I would highly recommend it for any little boy.

Then, we were asked to speak in church.  I really don’t enjoy speaking in church.  How many people do?  But I knew it was coming so I dealt with it.  My talk was on a conference talk by Elder Ballard entitled “Mothers and Daughters”.  I thought my talk 'written’ was really good I just felt the delivery could have been better.  Rob tells me otherwise.  He said I didn’t look nervous at all and very confident.  I suck at public speaking so I write my talks down word for word and read them. I try really hard to look at the congregation like you would see at General Conference. 

Anyway, this summer has been great and there is still more fun to come.  We’ve been spending time at our community pool, running on the trails, story time at the library, and enjoying the parks.  We do anything to expend James’ energy so by the time 8 o’clock rolls around James is tuckered and we don’t see him till 8 am the next morning.  It’s been working great so far!

The two best days of my life…

 

The day I became a mom to James and the day I became a mom to Katelyn.

I love being a mom.  For as long as I can remember it is something I’ve always wanted. 

It is definitely NOT easy but is it Very worth it!

The joy I felt the day my children were born and everyday after when I look at their beautiful faces is something I could never imagine…I feel like it gives me a small understanding of how the Lord feels about us.

Life is happening…

FAST!

I know, I’ve been really lame and haven’t taken the time to update my blog.  Do you ever feel like so much is going on that you don’t know what to blog about first?  That’s how I feel right now.  But here it goes…

WE MOVED!!! We own a HOUSE!!!  Do you ever hit milestones in your life that make you say “Now I’m starting to feel like an adult” and you figure by the time you are 80 you will actually feel like a full adult and not just a 16 year old anymore?  Well, buying  a house was one of those moments.

Here are a few small reason why I love living in a house…

#1 The garage.  I love that I can pull my jeep into the garage and bring my children and groceries in with out walking through the rain or snow.  It is a lovely thing.

#2  No more “hearing” our newly wed neighbors.  Need I say more?

#3 The backyard.  We haven’t spent much time in the backyard because it still needs a lot of work but it was soooo cute watching James help Rob rake the leaves  this weekend.

  

There is so many other things I want to blog about and many other reasons why I love living in a house but for now I get to clean the kitchen and make some dinner : ) …

Duty calls!

Counting blessing

1)  An awesome husband (with a good job!)

2)  Two beautifully healthy kids

3)  Katelyn sleeps 8-10 hours at night (I know, be jealous.  I will pray she keeps it up.)

4) We’re buying a HOUSE!!!  What do you think my chances are of getting HGTV to come and decorate it?!

5)  My amazing new stroller.  We just went on a family run yesterday.  James loved it and Kate slept the whole time.  It was AWESOME!

6)   My Mom is planning to bring my Grandparents to CO this spring to help me put in a garden.  My Grandma has a delicious garden.  Hopefully I can have one too.

7)  I am grateful for winter because it helps me to appreciate ALL of the other seasons much more.

8) Katelyn’s blessing day…

She was blessed on February 14th 2010 by her Daddy in Farmington, UT.  Thanks to my parents and Rob getting to do some work at BYU we were able to make a quick trip to UT for Valentine’s Day!

Two kids are better than one…

Life is great!  I thought having two kids was going to be dreadfully hard but it hasn’t been that bad so far.  My days definitely go by much quicker.  Not to say that it’s easy it’s just not as hard as I thought it was going to be.  That might be because I have refused to do any kind of shopping with the two of them.  It was hard enough just taking James.  Ever since he fell out of the cart and hit his head on the concrete floor in Walmart I haven’t wanted to take him to the store.  So here’s an update on the fam…

Rob- Rob is doing great!  He’s enjoying his job although it can be boring at times.  But he’s building up the Marriott points and frequent flyer miles.  Hopefully he will take me on a sweet vacation soon.

Me- I’m staying home with both kiddy poos.  It’s exactly where I want to be although I can’t wait for some warm weather so we can go out and play at the park again.  I started Weight Watchers about 3 –4 weeks ago and I have lost 5 lbs so far.  Only about 10 more to go.  I’ve also started to work out again.  I’m feeling great.  I just ordered an awesome stroller from Albeebaby.com  I can’t wait to get it.  Click here to see it!  I got an amazing deal. 

James- At the moment James is sick.  He had a fever yesterday and then it broke last night.  I think he’s feeling better today but not quite back to his old self.  I think he’ll just spend the day cuddled on the couch, like yesterday, watching Blues Clues.  He loves is baby sister soooo  much.  He calls her things like, little girl and sweetheart, just like me.  He loves to hold her and give her loves.

Katelyn- She is almost 7 weeks old and doing fabulous.  She is much chubbier then James was at this age.  She sleeps GREAT at night in her swing and she prefers the nuk binkies over the hospital ones.

P.S.  We are looking for a house at the moment.  We haven’t found THE ONE yet but hopefully soon.  Wish us luck!  I can’t wait to live in a house.  No more dealing with noise apartment neighbors.

House hunting…

We are looking for a house.  We put an offer on one yesterday but we aren’t sure if we will get it.  It’s a short sale.  Which is basically a house that is trying to stay out of foreclosure.  So, the bank has to approve our offer.  Which makes it a really long and difficult process. We will see what happens.  What ever the case I’m sure we will find something great!
